Body/non-body betekent letterlijk lichaam/niet-lichaam en dat zou je ook zo kunnen zien: de “slash” (/) is dan de grens tussen lichaam en niet-lichaam.
Dit is een heethang ijzer sinds Descartes denkexperiment “Ik denk, dus ik besta” (cogito ergo sum). Dit wordt dualisme genoemd. Dualisme heeft in de wetenschap geen goede naam meer: de theorie wordt spottend als “the ghost in the machine” aangeduid. Maar daarbuiten is het in vele varianten nog altijd springlevend, hoogstwaarschijnlijk nog altijd de dominante theorie. Je kunt Body/non-body ook zien als de tegenstelling: figuratief/niet-figuratief. Sinds de introductie van “abstractie als abstractie” is dit een klassiek onderscheid in de beeldende kunst.
Body/non-body was de titel van een tentoonstelling in Eye Love You Art in 2022 die ook toen door Saminte Ekeland en Rolf den Dunnen werd gecureerd. Ekeland/Den Dunnen zien deze nieuwe tentoonstelling als een een vervolg, een voortzetting van het thema en “het gesprek”, maar het is natuurlijk anders door de andere tijd, ruimte en niet in de laatste plaats andere deelnemende kunstenaars en kunstwerken.
De nieuwe tentoonstelling heeft aandacht voor de “grens” tussen BODY/NON-BODY, dus op de “slash”(/), maar toont ook de “lichamelijkheid” van kunstwerken. Het gaat soms om een doorwerking, om sporen en echoes van pioniers als Manzoni en Fontana op nieuwe generaties kunstenaars. Maar natuurlijk zijn de kunstwerken boven alles sterk en eigentijds.
Saminte Ekeland zal participeren in Art Rotterdam, in de Frank Taal Gallerie Booth.

The third annual Art Central Rotterdam XL will have a makeover for the year 2024.
It will hit the cultural agenda twice! The first episode will take place in the heart of the city between the 2nd and 11th of February 2024 and it will be an official part of the Rotterdam Art Week. Just as the winter season begins dynamically and the city becomes a cultural hub, Art Central Rotterdam XL seeks to highlight the cultural fermentation that is taking place in Rotterdam by bringing together a series of contemporary artspaces and galleries, local cultural institutions and artist-run spaces under one roof in a curated exhibition.
Marijn Bril, Art Central Rotterdam XL’s curator, delivers an exhibition that is tailored to the specific dynamics of the exhibition spaces, creating an engaging experience for visitors on the one hand, and adding to the opportunity to reach a wider audience on the other.
De GOOT, a very centrally located new cultural venue is chosen to host the exhibition spread in two spaces on the Beurstraverse 154 & Beurstraverse 111.
An ounce of information is worth a pound of data
Once the financial heart of Rotterdam and now a commercial centre, the Beurstraverse is a node in a network. The exhibition builds on this context and examines the economic, transportation, and information systems that converge there. The stock exchange with buyers and sellers, global trade driven by supply and demand, and the Internet with its users, servers, and websites – these interconnected systems are characterized by complexity. Like gears in a machine, the works in the exhibition collectively explore feedback, control, and errors in a time defined by interconnectivity and rapid technological change. Do we control our systems, or do they control us?
